Social Responsibility
We believe everyone should have the right to wholesome, real food, especially starting at a young age. All children should have access to the good nutrition they need to learn and grow. Since our launch, we have committed to donating 1% of our bars to help fight hunger in our community. By working with nonprofit partners, and particularly with school-based programs, we help get healthy snacks into the hands of kids in need.
Share our Strength reports that nationwide, 62% of teachers report regularly having kids come to their classroom hungry. School lunches and breakfasts are great, but we know healthy snacks are also important. That’s where we feel as 18 Rabbits we can uniquely make a difference.
Why bars, and not cash? First, we believe that our bars represent our mission better than any dollar amount could. Jr bars are a great school snack, since they are largely allergen-friendly, come in kid-approved flavors, and have the appropriate nutritional profile and calorie count for a school-age child. Second, it’s a tangible commitment that can’t be manipulated or changed like a % of cash or profit can. Last but not least, it’s easy for us and our stakeholders to understand and measure.
Why focus locally? 18 Rabbits was founded in San Francisco, and we love our city. Sadly, 1 in 4 individuals in our backyard experiences hunger according to the San Francisco Food Bank. Certainly as we grow, we envision that our philanthropy will grow in scope as well. But for now, we want to focus on the investment we’ve made in our local partners and keep that commitment deep and strong.
